A Bit About Me

Hi, I'm Becky!  I'm a nearly-30 vegetarian mama who loves family, travel, coffee, photography, good stories, meeting new people, and making and eating food. I want to eat better and teach my children (and myself) how to make healthy choices when it comes to eating.  I also don't want them to grow up the way I did - believing that anything healthy didn't taste good.  So I am on a quest to discover food that's nutritious, delicious, and fun to make.

I'm one of those lucky girls who married her high school sweetheart and has never regretted it for a minute.  We've been married eight years now and have two sweet girls and a lot of wonderful memories to show for it.  Our 3 1/2-year old loves visiting the zoo, going to the ocean, playing on the playground, and dancing around the living room in her pink and purple fairy costume.  Our nearly-one-year-old spends most of the day climbing on things, following her sister around, and smiling at just about everyone.

I grew up in a largely farm- and cowboy-centric city in southwestern Idaho, then moved to an intimidatingly small town in Washington State to attend college.  I got my English degree and fell in love with the town, so I stuck around for another six years after college, working and enjoying life.  In 2011 I accepted a job offer in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area serving as director of communications for a Christian non-profit that works with at-risk teens and families, and we're now loving the big city life.

When I'm not in the office, making crafts with my preschooler, cleaning the kitchen, or carting the wee one around, I enjoy cooking and baking (which is typically why the kitchen consistently needs cleaning).  I've always loved it, but recently (thanks to Pinterest and my determination to become a healthier person) I've discovered a passion for creating healthy food for me and my family.

I'm a far cry from Jamie Oliver, and I'm certainly not a nutrition expert, but I'm learning.  My goal with this blog is to document my experiments and learn from them, and to share ideas with fellow healthy eating enthusiasts.

Sharing means we all benefit - including myself - so I am more than happy to receive tips, suggestions, and recommendations from anyone reading this blog.  So please - make this blog a two-way street and share with me, too!  I look forward to hearing from you.
